Manitoba Hydro appoints interim CEO as search for new one begins
On February 13, 2024, Manitoba Hydro appointed Hal Turner, the utility’s former Vice-President of Asset Planning & Delivery, as Interim President and CEO. The appointment was made following the departure of former Jay Grewal, who had led the utility since early 2019.
Turner joined Manitoba Hydro in 1995. Prior to being named Vice-President in 2021, Turner was Director of Asset Management from 2020 to 2021 and Director of Generation Asset Management from 2017 to 2020.

Manitoba Hydro-Electric Board Chair Ben Graham said the utility is at a critical juncture, facing key decisions on how best to meet our customers’ energy needs in the future, and the board decided it was time for a fresh perspective on those decisions.
“One of the board’s most important responsibilities is to ensure we have the leadership in place to successfully guide Manitoba Hydro into the future,” Graham said. “On behalf of the board, I want to thank Jay Grewal for her contribution to the utility. She helped steer Hydro through a global pandemic and other significant changes.
“This decision does not change the fact that Manitoba Hydro, as one of the greenest energy producers in Canada, is starting from an excellent position to navigate the challenges of decarbonizing our economy and meeting growing demand for clean energy,” Graham said.
The board began a comprehensive internal and external search for a new permanent President and CEO on March 13, 2024, with consulting firm MNP assisting the corporation in its search.
